What is sidecar country music?

Sidecar country is one of the latest incarnations of Texas country music. Springing from the foundations of country rock from the late 1960's and outlaw country from the early 1970's, this band fuses musical styles from such artists as Graham Parsons, the Flying Burrito Brothers, the Byrds, Willis Alan Ramsey, CCR, the Eagles, B.W.Stevenson, Willie Nelson and Hank Williams III. Radio TeXXas creates a unique blend of old style country and rock music with a dash of the intangible ingredient called sidecar country.

Meet the Musicians

Louis "Buckaroo Lou" Siedlecki – Lead Vocals

From San Antonio but currently residing between Luling and Harwood, Texas, Louis was as a youngster, the original vocalist for the Hangmen and the Five Canadians. Their single “Writing on the Wall” hit the “top ten” in Canada and Los Angeles airplay markets. This group was featured in the periodical Brown Sack (1997) as one of the prime innovators of the garage/punk sound with featured article references to Louis as one of the premier vocalists and songwriters. Since that time, Louis has performed in a number of musical genres with a number of groups including the Seldom Heard Band, T.T. Thunderbeard, and the Trash Rockets and has toured with the Chris Hillman Band and Gene Clark (former co-founders of the Bryds) as well as shared the stage with such legendary notables as Peter Rowan (the Flying Burrito Brothers).

Chris Lange - Harmony Vocals, Guitar

Chris Lange, from Seguin Texas, is relatively new to the music scene but is making a grand entry. As a vocalist and songwriter for the band "Fairly Smashed", his song "Safe with Me" was a big hit on LaLa.com (since purchased by Apple Inc's iTunes). Chris has contributed his guitar stylings and song writing talents to help create the unique sound for the CD "Turn the Radio On".

Ashley Duderstadt – Lead Vocals, Harmony Vocals

Ashley has been singing all of her life - she started singing professionally at the age of 16 with Bobby Allen Jones. Ashley graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music from Texas State University, has appeared previously with Smokey Wilson and other local bands and now fronts and her current band, Mindset. Her musical style stems from classic country but is filtered through the influence of heavy rock resulting in an extremely versatile vocal ability. Ashley currently lives in San Marcos where she is pursuing her dream of being a full-time singer. With her commanding voice, emotional performance style, and sweetheart personality, you can expect big things to come from Ashley in the future.

Mike Harris - Lead Guitars, Dobro, Fiddle

Mike cut his musical eye teeth playing in southeast Texas in the 60's. He played in Austin and Fort Worth clubs in the mid-70's, then moved on to the Denton and Dallas area in the late 70's. After some years away from the band scene, he resumed in the late 80's, working back in Austin with Jimmy Carl Black, Arthur Brown, and producer Kim Fowley among others. Besides his involvement with Radio TeXXas, his recent work includes numerous performances with Amanda Pearcy as well as with former Balcones Fault frontman Fletcher Clark. Mike teaches extensively and operates Austin Piano and Strings Studio with his wife, singer/songwriter Wendy Murphy.

Howard Gloor – Steel Guitar

From Shiner, Texas comes Howard Gloor, a man of many talents. Howard was a guitar slinger from the legendary progressive rock band Homer but today he plays with Los Kolaches, Bill Pekkar, and others around central Texas but never too far from Shiner - that’s where there is a cozy little beer garden behind “Howards”, his local convenience store and public hangout with nine beers on tap. Howard’s pedal steel guitar licks tastefully frame this collection of songs in toe-tapping style.

Randy Sulsar - Bass, Guitars, Banjitar, Percussion

Randy played the tuba in school and later guitar and drums. Recently, he played bass with Slaves of Utopia, the LaserTones and the Flying Dollar Bunkhouse Band. In Lockhart, Texas, he operates Creek Bottom Music where he recorded and mixed the CD “Turn the Radio On”. His performances both on the upright and the electric bass and his rhythmic percussion form the foundation groove for these tracks while his guitar and banjitar add spicey accents throughout.
